A stone’s throw from trouble

Last week Central Line trains found themselves under attack from stone-throwing ne’erdowells whose houses and hangouts back on to the tracks. I thought I’d check out the scene myself, but I didn’t have time so can only tell you a bit about the area.

Monday 14th March – Evening Standard reports that only one day in the previous year (May 11th) all the tubes ran on time, without problems, all day. Tuesday 15th March – Evening Standard doesn’t run any stories or letters or comments about the Tube at all.

On Monday last week Boris Johnson (I need to come up with a nickname other than BoJo, so suggestions welcome below) announced that he was dead chuffed the East London line had finally been finished. Taken a while, but I guess it’s worth it.

Police yesterday cordoned off large areas of central London, most notably the road between Chancery Lane to Aldwych, including the Royal Courts of Justice, because of reported car bombs. It’s unclear whether it was a hoax or false evidence but, thankfully, there were no casualties. Except my journey home.

Drowning. Underwater, underground. Sort of like the unfortunate souls in the bowels of the Titanic and other ill-fated ships. That was the worst-case scenario I’d envisaged by the time I decided to disembark and get the bus home instead this afternoon during rush hour.
